Undertaking an apprenticeship offers numerous benefits, which can be both immediate and long-term.
1.
Hands-On Experience
Apprenticeships provide practical, on-the-job training, allowing you to gain valuable skills and experience directly relevant to your chosen field. Real-world experience in the workplace is often more beneficial than purely academic learning.
2.
Earning While Learning
Apprentices are paid employees, which means you can earn a salary while you learn. This reduces the need for student loans and other forms of debt, while supporting workers who study rather than students who are employed.
3.
Professional Development
Apprenticeships often include mentorship from experienced professionals. You develop your skills more effectively, understanding industry standards and expectations.
4.
Industry-Recognized Qualifications
Upon completing an apprenticeship, you will receive a certification or qualification that is industry-recognised. This can enhance your employability and career prospects.
5.
Career Advancement
Many apprenticeships are designed to lead directly to full-time employment, either internally or elsewhere. Employers often offer permanent positions to successful apprentices, providing a clear career path and job security. The skills gained in an apprenticeship can enable progression to a number of career pathways.
6.
Networking Opportunities
Working closely with industry professionals and peers provides apprentices with valuable networking opportunities. These connections can be beneficial for future career advancement and opportunities.
7.
Skill Development
Apprenticeships focus on developing both technical and soft skills, such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving, which are essential in any career.
8.
Understanding of Workplace Culture
Apprentices gain insight into the workplace culture and dynamics, which can make the transition to full-time employment smoother and less stressful.
9.
Enhanced Job Satisfaction
Apprentices who receive proper training and development are often more satisfied with their jobs. This satisfaction can lead to better performance and higher retention rates.
10.
Adaptability and Innovation
The practical experience gained through apprenticeships can foster a mindset of adaptability and innovation. Apprentices learn to apply theoretical knowledge to solve real-world problems, which can be crucial in dynamic and evolving industries.
Your eligibility
Apprentices are entitled to the apprentice rate if they’re either under 19 or aged 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship.
The minimum Apprenticeship wage for the first year of an Apprentice is £6.40 per hour (as of April 2024). Upon completion of the first year, this will then go up to the National Minimum Wage (NMW) for your age group. However, many employers pay more than this legal minimum.
Apply online through the Find an Apprenticeship website. A member of our recruitment team will then be in contact to discuss your application in more detail, usually through the completion of an initial telephone interview.
